Unexpected car fires can, and do happen. PennDOT highway cameras captured a fire on U.S. 202 Wednesday afternoon that completely engulfed a car vehicle. The two people inside were able to escape, according to the story on Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch.

Don't let the name fool you. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Pavement Survey van isn't just looking at pavement. You might have seen the vehicle on local state roads recently, as on Route 252 in Tredyffrin Township in the attached photo. According to PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum, it's a Location Referencing System van, and it's driving around making sure that the information in PennDOT's computer system matches reality. Blaum explained via email that the van verifies the locations of features like signs and bridges throughout the state. It even does spell-check: There are no cameras on the van. Truck inferno snarls traffic on the Blue Route for part of Tuesday morning.
A vehicle fire on I-476/Blue Route northbound caused traffic delays Tuesday morning. According to a release from Pennsylvania Department of Trasnportation via its Twitter feed, a vehicle caught fire on 476 Southbound near the St. David's exit before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. According to 6ABC, the vehicle, a truck, was carrying water and was put out by area firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The 'Operation Safe Holiday' campaign kicked off in Delaware County on Dec. 12 in front of the county courthouse.
PennDOT (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation), police and Delaware County officials kicked off regional impaired and aggressive-driving enforcement at the Delaware County Courthouse in Media last week as part of “Operation Safe Holiday,” a campaign encouraging safe driving through the holiday season. Police discussed the use of sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols and regular traffic safety patrols to crack down on motorists who are driving aggressively or driving while impaired. Police and PennDOT are joining forces to keep the roads safe this holiday season.
Information provided by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation: Harrisburg – PennDOT and police statewide are joining forces for “Operation Safe Holiday,” an initiative including seat-belt, aggressive-driving and impaired-driving enforcement aimed at keeping roadways safe this holiday season. The operation is under way, beginning with statewide Click It or Ticket seat-belt enforcement. I-76 and I-476 are among the closed state roads Monday night.
PennDOT announced Monday that several state highways, including I-95, I-476 and I-76, would be closed to all non-emergency vehicles until 2 a.m. Tuesday morning in response to Hurricane Sandy. According to a release, the transpiration department is closing "the full length of Interstates 95 and 676; I-476 (non-toll portion); I-76 from the Pa. Turnpike to Passyunk Avenue and the U.S. Route 1 Extension in Philadelphia to all traffic except emergency vehicles" The PA turnpike remains open. Before the closing, all area highways were placed under a 45 mph speed restriction. Additionally, NBC 10 is reporting that all Delaware River Port Authority bridges, the Ben Franklin, the Betsy Ross, the Commodore Barry and the Walt Whitman, are closed …
