32 Hours in Line for 52 Weeks of Doughnuts

A Springfield man sums up his time in line waiting to be the first customer at the new Havertown Krispy Kreme store.

Timothy Folkomer has a PhD in the sciences but he didn't need a dissertation to sum up his experience waiting in line for 32 hours to be the first customer at the new Krispy Kreme story in Havertown's Manoa Shopping Center. "Doc" has his business card identifies him, tells Patch he met a lot of nice people. In fact by the time the store opened for customers at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday (the store's normal opening time from Wednesday forward will be 6 a.m.), he had more than 150 fellow doughnut fans with him in line. Why Wait 32 Hours? Folkomer was first in line when he arrived on Sunday a little after 10 a.m.. For his patience he gets a coupon book for 52 free dozens of doughnuts. This is not the first time Folkomer has won free doughnuts for a …

Tax laws apply whether you receive forms or not. Income is income. You're right about deductions for donations to qualifying organizations, if he's making such donations. Merely giving things to people less fortunate doesn't meet the criterion.   more ›

Springfield Man First in Line for Doughnuts

This is not the first time he's done this.

Timothy Folkomer of Springfield is determined to win a dozen free Krispy Kreme Doughnuts every week for the next year. All he has to do to win them is stay first in line at the new Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop at the Manoa Shopping Center on West Chester Pike in Havertown. As a retired geologist and teacher, Dr. Folkomer, PhD  ("Doc" as his business card says), has the time to devote to being the first in line. He says he arrived Sunday morning a little after 10 a.m., right after teaching a Sunday school class at Covenant United Methodist Church. Folkomer is a veteran Krispy Kreme winner.  He tells Patch he won a dozen doughnuts every week for a year by being the first in line at the now-closed Krispy Kreme in Springfield (that building is…

Hava: It's not rhetoric - I work in commercial real estate and I know very well what types of businesses are taking what types of space. So I'm curious, since you say retail in Havertown is "nothing worthwhile" - which I don't disagree with - what types of retail do you ideally see going into where the new Rita's will be opening, or on the retail block between Katz's and the Oakmont Pub? And as a…   more ›
