The 10th annual competition, benefiting Alex's Lemonade, will be held on January 18.
The following was submitted by the School District of Haverford Township. Rival Middle Schools Haverford and Paxon Hollow will once again face-off in heated competition during the 10th Annual Potter Cup Friday, January 18, 2013 beginning at 2pm at Marple Newtown High School, 120 Media Line Road, Newtown Square, PA 19073 to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Students and teachers alike will participate in a pep-rally before reveling in competitions between the wrestling teams and boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. “The Potter Cup” will then be awarded to the school that wins two out of three of the sporting competitions. The Haverford Township School District budget, which increases the millage rate from 26.7305 to 27.5058, goes up for formal adoption on February 7.
School District of Haverford Township taxpayers will see a 2.9 percent tax hike the Delaware County Daily Times is reporting. According to the paper, owing primarily to a $700,000 wage jump and a $2.3 million increase in the district’s obligation to the Public School Employees’ Retirement System, millage rates will go from 26.7305 to 27.5058 when the 2013-14 budget is adopted February 7. "What’s really scary,” school director Phil Hopkins said at a recent meeting, “[is] if you do a budget to budget analysis, is that you have wages going up by about $700,000 and benefits going up $3 million. Four teachers were recognized for their quarter century of work.
The Haverford School Board recently recognized a quartet of educators who have worked in the district for a quarter of a century, the Delaware County Daily Times is reporting. According to the paper, Haverford Middle School math teacher Michael Braverman, Chatham Park Elementary School teacher Patricia Hardy, Haverford High School art teacher Mark Wangberg and middle school guidance counselor Ronna Scheier were honored for their distinguished service. Nine Haverford High students were cited for underage drinking.
Haverford High School’s homecoming dance was tarnished last week when nine attendees were cited for underage drinking, three of whom had to be hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. According to Haverford Police Sergeant Shant Bedrosian, the first call regarding misbehavior at the November 21 dance came in at approximately 8 p.m. By 9:07 p.m. the department had issued citations to nine students; six of whom were released to their parents and three who had to be taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital because of the extent of their intoxication. “It was clear they needed medical attention,” said Bedrosian, who declined to provide comment on whether the students had imbibed at the dance or before they came.
