The department announced that the Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce wil be out the week of February 3.
The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will be conducting roving DUI patrols during the week of February 3, the Haverford Township Police Department announced today. The taskforce is comprised of six municipalities—Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor, Springfield and Upper Darby townships—and has been in operation since September of 2009. In the course of 38 operations in that time, the taskforce has arrested 80 drivers for DUI or drugs, issued 29 citations for underage drinking, and written 448 citations and 500 warnings for other motor vehicle violations. The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will establish the checkpoints starting Monday.
According to a press release to the media, the Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will conduct DUI checkpoints the week of November 19 within Springfield Township. The press release was issued by the Haverford Township Police Department on November 16 and did not indicate at what times and locations the checkpoints will take place. The DUI Taskforce includes four other municipalities—Haverford, Marple, Newtown, and Radnor. It has been in operation since September 2009, during which time it has conducted 36 operations. The taskforce has made 79 arrests for DUI, issued 29 citations for underage drinking, and written over 900 additional citations and warnings for other offenses. Checkpoints and DUI patrols will take place in Delaware County on Saturday.
The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will be performing patrols on St. Patrick's Day, according to a press release issued to the media. The press release was sent out by the Haverford Township Police Department Thursday afternoon. Haverford Police Deputy Chief John Viola warned people to be safe this Saturday. “Don't think that drinking green beer gives you the right to spill red blood on streets—yours or anyone else's,” stated Viola in the press release. “We encourage everyone who plans to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year with alcohol to keep in mind our anti-drunk-driving campaign slogan, 'Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.'" During the Super Bowl, the Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce investigated 39 traffic investigations, the Haverford Township Police Department explained to Patch. The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce, which includes six municipalities—Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor, Springfield and Upper Darby townships—conducted a roving DUI patrol on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 05. These checkpoints are really a waste of time and money. Just look at the statistics on them. They cost a ton of money and officers time and the DUI arrests (suspected) are very low. They do however issues hundreds of other citations for things to generate $$$ (which is out of scope of the DUI checkpoint allowance).
