Delco SPCA Seeks Hurricane Help

The Delaware County SPCA asks for community help before Hurricane Sandy hits.

With Hurricane Sandy, aka Frankenstorm, predicted to be a catastrophic “perfect storm,” the Delaware County SPCA is asking for the community's help before the storm hits. The most urgent need is short-term foster homes for the 160 animals currently waiting to be adopted at the Adoption Center. Temporary, one-week foster homes would ensure the safety of the homeless animals, enabling free space in the areas closest to outside windows and doors, keeping the animals in the shelter out of harm’s way. Anyone interested in temporarily fostering an animal, is asked to visit www.delcospca.org and fill out the Emergency Foster Application visible on the right-hand-side of the homepage or stop in to the Adoption Center to fill out the application. …

Hurricane Preparedness Gets Hip With New App

The American Red Cross is offering a free app to help keep you safe just as hurricane season peaks.

Whether you have an iPhone or Android, the American Red Cross wants to make it easy for you to be prepared during hurricanes.    The nonprofit announced that its new "Hurricane App" is available for free download in both the iPhone App Store and the Google Play Store for Androids — simply by searching American Red Cross. You can also get the app by dialing **redcross from your mobile phone to generate a text message with a download link.
