Kohl's a Target for Retail Thefts

Read about two recent incidents there.

  Haverford Township Police report two recent cases of retail theft. Police report that on April 17 at 5:09 p.m. they were called to Kohl's in the 200 block of West Chester Pike for the report of two women who stole a pair of shoes and then fled the store. Also at Kohl's on April 17, police were called at 7:30 p.m. for the report of theft. An 18-year-old woman from Upper Darby was cited for retail theft for stealing $84 worth of merchandise. A 19-year-old woman from Upper Darby was also cited for theft of $32 worth of goods. Haverford Police Welcome K9 Cop Nitro to the Force

The German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix will work with officer Mark Semerad.

To combat rising crime in the township, the Haverford Police force has added a K9 unit to the force, the Main Line Times is reporting. Nitro, a year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix will work with 18-year veteran officer Mark Semerad. The K9 is trained to assist police in drug detection as well as day-to-day patrol work. Haverford Police chief Carmen Pettine told the paper that the use of police dogs is becoming increasingly prevalent. “K9s are one of the fastest growing tools for police...A well-planned K9 program can...save manpower and provide a safer environment for officers to operate in, thereby providing a safer community,” Pettine said. Police: Havertown Woman Trashed Apartment, Assaulted Officer

Police say she was taken for a mental health evaluation after she was forcibly arrested.

A Havertown woman was arrested last weekend after police say she trashed her apartment, then attempted to kick an officer in the groin when her landlord called Haverford Police. Bonita C. Rotoli, 49, stands charged with multiple counts of simple assault, harassment, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, and criminal mischief stemming from the November 30 incident. According to court documents, a Haverford Police officer was dispatched to the 100 block of West Chester Pike at 2:29 p.m. for a reported dispute between a tenant and her landlord. Haverford Police Make Pair of DUI Arrests

The incidents occurred on November 21 and 27.

The following incident reports were provided by the Haverford Township Police Department. Arrest does not suggest conviction. Patrick Vizzard, 24, a resident of the 100 block of Hunt Club Lane, Newtown Square, was arrested on charges of DUI, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, careless driving, speeding and roadways laned for traffic on the 800 block of Darby Road on November 21 at 1:58 a.m. Natalie Ritter, 52, a resident of the 1000 block of Villanova Avenue, Swarthmore, was arrested on charges of retail theft at Kohl's (200 block of West Chester Pike) on November 23 at 6:08 p.m. George Vasiliou, 56, a resident of the 2600 block of S. Police: Men Looking for 'Pills' Attempt Robbery on E. Eagle Road

Police say one of the masked men wrestled a woman to the ground in an attempt to take her purse.

The following incident reports were provided by the Haverford Township Police Department. Arrest does not suggest conviction. Theft at LA Fitness (400 block of West Chester Pike) on November 7 at 8:21 p.m. Three vehicle windows were smashed out and an iPhone, a duffle bag with over $400 worth of vitamins, credit cards, $280, and a cell phone were stolen. Bicycle Theft at the unit block of Hannum Drive on 1November 7 at 7:56 p.m. Vandalism at the Quarry (100 block of W. Township Line Road) on November 8 at 9:22 a.m. Unknown actors entered the construction site and damaged 24 anchor bolts, which support columns. Police: Havertown Woman Assaulted Boyfriend's Daughter

“She grabbed me really hard and my face hurts,” the girl told police.

A Havertown woman was arrested on Sunday after police say she assaulted her boyfriend’s daughter. Amber Dawn Galvin, 31, faces charges of simple assault of a victim under age 12, harassment, and endangering the welfare of a child stemming from the October 21 incident. According to court documents, Galvin and her boyfriend got in a verbal fight in their Manoa Road home at approximately 8 p.m. that evening. The argument got sufficiently heated that the man told his daughter to stay in her room and get ready for bed. Shortly after the argument subsided and Galvin and her boyfriend separated, the man heard his daughter crying from her room. Upper Darby Man Confesses to Multiple Copper Thefts

Police say the man has stolen copper from three area churches since mid-September.

An Upper Darby man suspected of stealing six copper downspouts from Trinity Lutheran Church last week turned himself into authorities and confessed to that crime and several other area copper thefts, Haverford Township Police announced yesterday. Steven Michael Molitor, 34, was charged with four counts each of institutional vandalism, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property. According to Haverford Police, Trinity Lutheran’s surveillance system captured a white male removing the downspouts from the church the morning of October 10 and putting them in a silver Honda Accord. Haverford Police Help Reunite Special Needs Child With His Trombone

Aidan and his mom thought the instrument was lost forever, until the phone rang yesterday.

An area boy with special needs got an unexpected lift from Haverford Police yesterday when the department returned his missing trombone, NBA Philadelphia and other sources are reporting. According to the website, Aidan Milligan, a nine-year-old from Drexel Hill who’s afflicted with down syndrome, lost the instrument on Thursday when he left it by the curb near the family car. The trombone disappeared a few minutes later and didn’t turn up until, out of the blue, Aidan’s mom got a call from Haverford Township Police on Sunday. Copper Gutters Swiped From Trinity Lutheran Church

The crime was the second of its kind in the township this month.

Havertown Township Police are investigating a copper theft from a local church, the department confirmed Friday afternoon. According to Sergeant Shant Bedrossian, six copper gutters were stolen from Trinity Lutheran Church the morning of October 10. Bedrossian said the church reported the gutters are worth approximately $150 each. The department does have a suspect. The church’s video surveillance system captured a white male in his 30s with tattooed arms removing the gutters. He wore a white tank top and athletic shorts at the time of the crime.
