Haverford Student Starts Summer Stage Scholarship

Upper Darby Summer Stage begins its 38th season in July.

Tristan Horan, a senior at Haverford High School and active Summer Stage participant, is organizing the Summer Stage Foster Child Scholarship Program, called T's Kids, in memory of his friend Terrance Calvert (pictured). "I can't think of a better way to remember Terrance than to offer others the opportunity to participate in the program he loved," Horan said. Calvert, 22, was a long-time Summer Stage participant and staff member. Haverford Shows Locks of Love

Almost 600 inches of hair was donated on Monday.

Sixteen students and teachers from Haverford High School donated at least 10 inches each of hair at the school on Monday. A total of 594 inches of hair that was donated to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.  $150 worth of donations from buzz cuts for boys was also donated. It's the 11th year that the school has held an event for the organization.

Newsweek Ranks Haverford Among US High Schools

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Haverford High School as the #742 high school in the country. Locally, Conestoga High School in Berwyn was ranked #124, Harriton High School #219, Strath Haven High School #291, Radnor High School #255, Lower Merion High School #321, Springfield High School #648 and Marple Newtown High School #1096. In Pennsylvania, Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia received the highest ranking of #56. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. Haverford Students Win Theater Honors

Students celebrate school theater season at 2013 Philadelphia Area Cappies

  After a walk down the red carpet it was on to honors inside for high school performers from Haverford Sunday at the 2013 Cappies Awards. The annual awards honor student actors, technicians, musicians, designed and theater critics in the greater Philadelphia region. 37 public and private schools in the city and surrounding counties are nominated and awarded by student theater critics.  The critics themselves are also among the award nominees and winners presented with trophies.  Before the show at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center at Upper Darby High School, nominees walked the red carpet in formal wear and in some cases in costume from shows and musicals presented during the current school year. Haverford High Hosts Transition Fair

The purpose is to provide families and students with information about the supports available to them as they plan for the transition to post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.

  Parents and students who are planning for the transition to post-secondary education, employment, and independent living are invited to the School District of Haverford Township's Second Annual Post-Secondary Transition Fair. The purpose is to provide families and students with information about the supports available to them as they plan for the transition to post-secondary education, employment, and independent living, according to the school district. More than 30 representatives from regional organizations will be available to speak to students and families. Refreshments will be served. The fair takes place Monday, May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Haverford High School.

Haverford High Student Arrested at School

Police say they found evidence on the teenager when he was arrested.

  A Haverford High School student faces charges of public drunkenness, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana and drug paraphernalia after he was arrested Monday at the school. Haverford Police say they received a report of a student under the influence of a controlled substance at 10:21 a.m. Monday. According to police "the officer detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana as he entered the office." Police say the 18-year-old student "appeared confused and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy."  Police say the teen was in possession of marijuana and two unidentified pills when he was arrested.

A Fun Night Out With Benefits in Haverford

Looking for something fun and different to do in Havertown this Friday? Try Rockin' The Schoolhouse.

  Looking for a fun night out Friday? Haverford High School faculty members and students will be performing in a special show to raise awareness to the issue of hunger, collect food for Philabundance and to raise money for the school's after-prom party. According to information from the Haverford School District, The 2013 Rockin' The Schoolhouse Show  raises money for the BLAST committee, which supports the Senior Prom after party, and supports Philabundance, which works to drive hunger from our communities.  Last year's show raised $1,100 for the BLAST, and we collected over 130 items for Philabundance.  It's going to be a GREAT night of music, featuring songs by The Police, Billy Joel, Taylor Swift, Kings of Leon, Phillip Phillips, Bruce…
