Evening Commute Could Be Snowy

Tonight's commute could be slippery.

  Snow is in today’s forecast. An advisory from the National Weather Service reads: LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE AREA FROM WEST TO EAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON. BY EARLY EVENING, IT SHOULD BE SNOWING ACROSS ALL AREAS. THE SNOW IS THEN EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF AROUND MIDNIGHT. IMPACTS...GIVEN THE CONTINUATION OF VERY COLD CONDITIONS ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA, THE SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE IMMEDIATELY. THE START TIME OF THE SNOW SHOULD AFFECT THE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING COMMUTE. UNTREATED ROADS AND WALKWAYS WILL BECOME SNOW COVERED, RESULTING IN AREAS OF HAZARDOUS TRAVEL. Snow/Sleet Expected Overnight

A gloomy week isn't getting any brighter just yet.

It’s expected to rain late tonight and then turn to sleet with a mixture of snow and sleet overnight, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service gives the probability of precipitation overnight at 100 percent. The overnight low is expected to be hovering around the freezing mark. Snow and sleet are expected to continue through Wednesday morning, according the National Weather Service, with most of it stopping by 10 a.m. NBC 10 Philadelphia’s “Hurricane” Glenn Schwartz says the temperatures are warm enough and the precipitation is light enough that it should melt. Schwartz says the sun with return Thursday.

Winter Weather Advisory for Greater Philly

The National Weather Service wants residents to look out for snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the greater Philadelphia area on Saturday. According to a release from the service, residents in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties can expect up to an inch of snow between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Snow will hit the area around daybreak in northern Delaware then spread up Interstate 95 by mid morning, the release states. The service suggests that travelers be prepared for "snow covered roads and limited visibility" and cautions that driving could be difficult due to slippery roads and low visibility. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s on Saturday. The warning is in effect from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
