Commissioners Give OK To Hire 7 New Police Officers

Board of Commissioners President William Weschler told those who attended the commissioners meeting that the township is not going to be over budget by hiring the officers.

The Haverford Township Commissioners gave the approval to hire seven new police officers once they complete exam requirements. Haverford Township Police Chief Carmen Pettine told the Haverford-Havertown Patch before the Monday, Aug. 8, meeting started that the seven officers need to complete their exams before officially being hired. 71 police officers in Haverford is way to many.Commissioners excuse is that,the budget has enough money to afford them.Whose budget?What did the gum factory cost the taxpayer in Havertown?Is that the same budget that commissioner Wecschler is talking about.The difference between 6 million dollars and 1.5 million I believe is 4.5 million that is tacked on to the taxpayers real estate bill in …   more ›

Lawyer Presents DEP, Superfund Site Agreement To Commissioners

The agreement protects the township from any “state-related liability associated to what is the superfund site and that includes the property of the bubble gum factory,” says township attorney David Brooman.

During the Haverford Township Commissioners work session meeting on Monday night, the township’s lawyer presented an agreement between the commonwealth’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the township. David Brooman reiterated to the board of commissioners that he was brought to them in June 2007 to evaluate the feasibility of using the Swell Bubble Gum factory site for township use and what, if any, environmental impacts the site might offer and how it may or may not restrict the township’s ability to use the land. “After reviewing it and looking at the documentation as well as the environmental reports of the property, together with the county, that we didn't think it would impair (township’s use of the land),” Brooman …

I am curious if this attorney is the same attorney representing them in the suit filed against the Township and the Public Works department in a wrongful termination suit. My sources tell me that attorney has given very bad advise to the Township.   more ›
