Kindergarten pre-registration for students entering schools in the Haverford School District will end on Feb. 8.
For parents looking to register their children in kindergarten within the Haverford School District, save the date: pre-registration call-in dates started on Monday and will last until Friday, Feb. 8. Registration appointments will begin on Feb. 21. If your child will be five years old on or before August 31, 2013, and is a resident of Haverford Township, he or she will be eligible to attend kindergarten during the 2013-2014 school year, according to the Haverford School District website. Parents and guardians should plan to begin the kindergarten registration process by calling their local elementary school this week. Calls will be accepted between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. only. Four Haverford School District teachers were recently recognized for their years of service at a school board meeting.
Four Haverford School District teachers were recently recognized for their 25 years of service to the school district at a school board meeting on Nov. 15. Teachers honored at the meeting included Haverford Middle School math teacher Michael Braverman and fourth-grade teacher at Chatham Park Elementary School Patricia Hardy. Ronna Scheier, counselor at Haverford Middle School, and Mark Wangberg, art teacher at Haverford High School, were not present but recognized. "These four teacher have stayed the course and invested thousands of hours to the lives of our children," said Superintendent William Keilbaugh at the school board meeting. Chatham Park Elementary School wins the one-mile challenge.
Saturday’s cool temperatures made for a great running day for the 5th annual Twilight 5K Run and One-Mile Elementary School Challenge race sponsored by the Haverford Township Education Foundation. This year’s race raised more than $30,000 for educational programs for Haverford Township schools. The race drew 400 runners and is the biggest fundraising event for the foundation. The money raised is used to fund innovative educational programs in Haverford Township schools. The One-Mile Challenge is a big draw for the elementary schools. The school with the best-combined time in the race gets to host the Twilight Run trophy in their school for the entire year. Chatham Park Elementary School was again the winner of the challenge. By Katrine Fantini The rain from Thursday night may have washed away the science themed sidewalk chalk artwork created by the fourth and fifth grade Service Club, but it didn’t put a damper on the growing excitement for Chatham Park Elementary School’s annual fourth and fifth grade Science Fair that was held last Friday night. Scattered throughout the cafeteria and gymnasium were 33 tri-fold displays that the judges had combed through and made the difficult decision of which project from each grade would take home the award for Most Outstanding Project.
