I started frequenting Hanne's because the food was great and the owner, Chris, was always upbeat and fun to talk to. However, it doesn't take long before you observe that the crowd of regulars is also a very friendly bunch. People often stop at tables to chat with others whom they appear to know from the restaurant. If the waitress is busy and you want coffee, you're encouraged to help yourself. Those who do, often carry the pot around to the other tables too.

A group of Haverford High teachers has been meeting there weekly for years. A group of businessmen and professionals sits at the counter to discuss sports and current events. Several groups of retirees meet for breakfast regularly. Mothers with young children seem to love the place because kids are welcome. Some children like to sit at the counter and watch Chris cook. They even bring her drawings to hang on the walls - which are covered with photos of 2 generations of customers. I've seen college kids, home for the weekend bring their friends and point out their baby photos on the wall to demonstrate how long they've been coming there. It's the closest thing to Cheers I've ever seen.
