Havertown Woman Volunteers From the Heart

Davina Dukes dedicates her time to helping those less fortunate.

For most people, they are passionate about donating their time to just one charity or organization.

For Davina Dukes, one simply is not enough.

“It’s my passion and love for people, and supporting the efforts of someone’s passion is what I love,” said the 46-year-old Havertown woman, who admitted to volunteering three to four times a week.

Dukes volunteers for a variety of causes, such as women and child issues and a number nonprofits.  Some of the places she donates her time are the Women’s Way and Dress for Success, which helps low-income women by providing suits for interviews and career development advice.

Volunteering was something that started out when she was a child, but she has been throwing herself into it for the last 15 years, Dukes explained.

When Dukes is not dedicating her time to those in need, she is a graduate student at Saint Joseph’s University. Her major is health administration and she hopes to be on a hospital’s ethics committee once she has graduated.

But she already has a master’s degree in health care, two associate degrees for legal and business and a paralegal certificate, Dukes said, who has two daughters who are 24 and 22 years old.
