How The U.S. Open Could Impact School Busses

The tournament will have an affect on bus routes and times during the last week of the school year.

Haverford Township School District school bus routes and schedules will be impacted by the U.S. Open. Exactly how the golf tournamenet will impact individual routes is still not completely clear.

In response to a question from Haverford Patch the district sent this response, including a website link that will be updated on a daily basis during the tournament week from June 10-14. June 14 is now the last day of school for students in the district because of a lack of snow days needed during the winter.

If the U.S. Open were to go into an extra or rain-delay round it would be played on Monday June 17.

This is the latest information provided by the School District of Haverford Township:

The School District of Haverford Township Transportation Department is evaluating our daily school bus routes in anticipation of the road closures for the upcoming US Open.  We will adjust bus routes around the expected road closures. We do anticipate that even the adjusted routes will result in delays.

Additional information will be placed on the School District web site (www.haverford.k12.pa.us) as it is available. The Transportation Department will also use Twitter (@sdhtbus) for daily updates concerning any school bus routes that are running behind.

If this Township Admin had any REAL forethought, they woul have curtailed the Spring break back from 6 days to 3 (or so) and ended school at least by Tues/Wed perhaps to avoid the bigger onrush during the Tournamment days. But getting teachers to agree to a temporary concession would be herecy, right?

The week of June 10th, my children have 1/2 days for 3 of the days that week. Based on the projected number of attendees, it may take longer to get to/from school than to actually BE in the classroom on those days. I hope the Township reconsiders the bussing and the school hours for that week.

Planning on walking from our home near the middle school to Chestnutwold the last week of school. It is what it is and no use getting upset.

That only works if your school is not off Darby Rd.

Maybe the Haverford School District should consider to have the same rights to use those "closed" roads as the police, fire dept and EMS have. They can use them when needed.
