Some Sacrifices Are Recognized

Mike Clancy had to be a quarterback for the Haverford High School Fords even though he is not one.

Mike Clancy’s stats won’t blow anyone over.

That’s because the senior has had a big chunk of his rushing numbers taken away from the major sacrifice he made through the first part of this season.

When was unable to play through the early portion of the year nursing a broken right hand, it was Clancy that stepped in to replace Durkin. The thing is, Clancy is not a quarterback. The Fords got off to a rocky start, and Clancy’s rushing numbers suffered.

He had the thankless job of being the square peg wedged into the round hole that was fitted for Durkin.

“I can’t say enough about what Mike Clancy did for us,” Fords’ coach Joe Gallagher said. “He did make a major sacrifice for this team by taking over at quarterback, because that’s the position everyone looks towards. Believe me, Clancy’s numbers would be much greater if he played tailback all season.”

Clancy, the son of legendary Strath Haven coach Kevin Clancy, got a chance to shine Friday night, rushing for . 

“Mike has done so much for us, and we do realize that,” Gallagher said. “He’s a coach’s son and that comes out in so many ways with Mike.”
