Save the Dates: College 101 at Haverford High School

Haverford High School will host a number of college presentations throughout the month of October for high school seniors and parents.

All throughout October, Haverford High School will be hosting introduction to college presentations. From applying to colleges to student loans, the Haverford High School Counseling Department will brief interested parents and students on all aspects of college. 

Read below for dates and times of the various topics the high school will hold presentations on: 

  • Oct. 9, Tuesday, at 7 p.m., Navigating the Maze of College Testing: Presented by Cigus Vanni in Room 126 on SATs, ACTs, IBs, APs, subject tests, and more. Parents and students will discover the myths and legends of the SAT; students will meet the ACT; students will learn about subject tests–and students will have a map of when to sit for these tests.
  • Oct. 10, Wednesday, 7 p.m., Naviance Presentation for Seniors and Parents: The Haverford High School Counseling Department has planned a presentation outlining the Naviance post-high school planning program. This presentation is for senior students and their parents and will take place in the high school auditorium. Topics for the evening will include researching and applying to colleges, and the process of requesting a high school transcript and letters of recommendation.
  • Oct. 15, Monday, at 7 p.m., Paying for College: Presented by Fred Armein in Room 126. Understand how the financial aid process can work to a student's advantage and help pay for college education. Financial aid officers are limited on what they can recommend on how to pay for college. This discussion will be about the financial aid process, financial aid forms, Expected Family Contribution Calculation (EFC), tax incentives, private scholarships, and more. Parents must remember that paying for college is not just completing the FAFSA forms and financial aid forms.
  • Oct. 22, Monday at 7 p.m., Saving for College: Presented by Fred Armein in Room 126. Parents are looking for the best way to save for college and at the same time save for retirement. This presentation will give a brief overview of the financial aid process, financial aid positioning, and the various college saving options while keeping retirement in mind.
  • Oct. 29, Monday at 7 p.m., Student Loans Repayment & Forgiveness: Presented by Fred Armein in Room 126. Total college debt now exceeds credit card debt. College costs are rising faster than inflation. So many students and families are financing a bigger portion of a college education. Understand how the different loans are paid back, what are the loan forgiveness programs and more about how student loan repayment works.
