Retiring Haverford MS Music Teacher To Be Honored

After 36 years of teaching music, Seth Gardner is going to retire but not before he will be honored Thursday evening.

, Gardner, who came to the Haverford Township School District as a music teacher in 1979, will be honored at from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., June 28, at a free event.

Gardner is best known for establishing the award-winning select choir group Seventh Heaven in 1980, according to the event. Seventh and eighth graders audition to become a member of the group and perform about 20 concerts during the academic year, stated the event entry, posted by .

"A  Seventh Heaven tradition included singing 'Kenya Melodies' by Robert I. Hugh; alumni of the renowned choir were always invited on stage to join in to sing the memorable a cappella tune," the event entry stated.

While Gardner started teaching at Lackawanna Trail Junior/Senior High School in Factoryville, Pa., after he graduated from Ithaca College in 1975, it was not until he came to the school district in 1979 where, "he taught classroom, choral, and instrumental music at the elementary and middle school/junior high levels."
