Report: Haverford Educator Stole from Charters She Founded

Dorothy June Brown allegedly took $214,000.

A Haverford educator was indicted last week on charges that she and a team of conspirators defrauded a charter school she founded of over $214,000, Philly.com is reporting.

According to the report, Dorothy June Brown, 75, had been charged on July 24 with 62-counts relating to her allegedly defrauding three Philadelphia K-8 charters of over $6.5 million. On Tuesday five additional charges came when it became clear that Brown and Joan Woods Chalker—a Springfield resident and the chief executive of one of the schools Brown founded—allegedly caused Laboratory Charter School to pay them $214,000 they had not been contracted to receive.

The pair apparently fabricated records to get sick pay and vacation pay they had not earned.
