NWS Issues Excessive Heat Warning For Wednesday

Calling it an "early season heatwave," the NWS stated the warning remains in effect from noon Wednesday until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Haverford Township and the rest of the region may be hit by what the National Weather Service (NWS) is calling an “early season heatwave,” which caused the service to issue an excessive heat warning from noon Wednesday until 8 p.m. Thursday.

The temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s, possibly 97, for Wednesday, with a heat index value as high as 101 degrees, according to the NWS. Wednesday evening is expected to drop to a low of around 76.

Thursday is expected to be the same as Wednesday, with a possible high of 97 and a heat index value as high as 101, the NWS reported.

With prolong periods of hot temperatures expected to hit the region, the NWS stressed that extra precautions should be taken for people who will be outdoors. Those outside should wear lightweight and loose clothing and drink plenty of water, the NWS advised.

Any outdoor work or exercising should be done either in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are at their expected lows, suggested the NWS.

The NWS also advised that it is best to stay indoors with the air conditioning on and to check on older adults, children and pets.

And while Thursday night might bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8, with a low of 73 degrees, it may not mean major relief, the NWS stated, as Friday is expected to be as high as 90 degrees and a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
