Meet Lynnewood Teacher Barbara Epstein

Haverford-Havertown Patch is featuring great teachers in the Haverford-Havertown area who deserve some spotlight. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do. This teacher has been in the industry for 38 years, and knew that she was born to be a teacher.

Name: Barbara Epstein

School: Lynnewood Elementary School

Grade/Subject: Elementary Itinerant Learning Support for language arts and math. I work in a co-teaching push in model and I pull children out of class in small groups.

Years in the Industry: 38

Teacher Background: I grew up in Reading and received degrees from Penn State. I completed my +30 at Temple. I have been married for 33 years and have one daughter. I met my husband at an acting class at Haverford Night School. I have lived in Havertown since I began in the Haverford School District.

What do you like most about your job? 

I like  seeing the excitement when a student  accomplishes something they are proud of. I love the funny things that young children say and I enjoy seeing the fashion trends they wear to school. The kids keep me feeling young and in touch with the popular toys and technology.

Why did you become a teacher? 

I am one of those people who from a very young age knew I had the skills to be a good teacher. I am one of those people who are talked about in the quote, "Good teachers are born, not made."

What do you like best about your current school (projects, programs or activities that your school is a part of):

All of the teachers I work with are remarkablely generous with their time and they and our exceptional PTO, develop numerous social service projects like collecting food and clothing for needy people. This is important for our students to observe and think about.
