This teacher has dedicated her 11-year teaching career in Catholic schools.

Name: Lara Croy

School: Cardinal John Foley Regional Catholic School

Grade/Subject: Third Grade

Years in the Industry: 11 years

Teaching Background: I spent my entire teaching career in catholic schools, and I've loved every minute of it. I started my career at St. Mark's Catholic School in Bristol. I moved to Annunciation BVM in Havertown in 2003 to be closer to home. When I had my second daughter, I decided to stay at home and raise my girls. I was ready to go back to work, but there were no open positions at ABVM. I was fortunate enough to be recommended by the administration at ABVM to St. Denis and so began my time at St. Denis, and now Cardinal Foley. The merge of these schools has been a unique opportunity for me because of my familiarity with both schools and their families.

What do you like most about your job?

The kids–hands down. We learn from each other and their learning is my reward. I believe that I am making a difference in their futures. These students really make me feel special. I leave work every day feeling so appreciated. How many people can say that? Being in the primary grades is a treat also because I am able to watch these children continue their education and go on to be the leaders of the school. I continue to have such a wonderful relationship with so many former students.

Why did you become a teacher?

I have always had a way with kids. From when I was younger, babysitting was one of my favorite things to do. I really enjoy working with them and watching them as they learn. I truly can't imagine doing anything else.

What do you like best about your current school (projects, programs or activities that your school is a part of):

I have loved watching these two amazing schools grow into one, strong, vibrant community. It has been a wonderful year so far. I am grateful for the faculty and staff that I work with. We have a group of dedicated teachers who give 150 percent every day. We work well with each other, and with the dedicated, wonderful families. I am so happy to be a part of this new adventure. We have so many different opportunities for the students, and so many of these opportunities involve giving back to the community, and helping the less fortunate. I love watching our children participate in everything whole heartedly. The respect, selflessness, and cooperation of our students is displayed every day from the little ones to the 8th graders. We have a great family here at Cardinal Foley!
