Last Chance: Treats for Troops Drive Ends Thursday

Haverford High School's Cooking for a Cause Club is collecting donations to send to U.S. troops overseas.

Haverford High School's Cooking for a Cause Club is collecting donations through Thursday to help send treats to soldiers overseas. Donations can be dropped off at Haverford High School, 200 Mill Road, Havertown in the main office.

High school senior Justin Juliano, the co-president of Cooking for a Cause, and more than 100 club members are gathering donations to give to Treats for Troops, an organization that sends gifts to soldiers overseas.

According to Juliano, the club raised about $50 in donations and close to 60 pounds of snacks and donations last year.

"This year we would like to double those numbers," said Juliano over email.

One item that was and still is in high demand are cards with inspiring messages that can be added to the care packages, said Juliano. According to Juliano, the cards may be holiday related but the cards and messages are sent to troops throughout the year.

Juliano helped get the club involved last year. "We know the founder of the organization, and when our cooking for a cause club wanted to do a donation drive, we felt this one was a perfect fit. It is a great way to give back to those serving our country over seas around the holiday time."
