Haverford Schools Budget Will be Close to $100 Million

The School District of Haverford Township's School Directors on May 23 approved the district's Proposed Final Budget for 2013-2014.

The School District of Haverford Township's School Directors on May 23 approved the district's Proposed Final Budget for 2013-2014. The budget totals about $98 million.

The School Directors will vote on the final budget on June 20.

The 2013-2014 Budget includes a millage rate of 27.6784. This reflects a 3.55% increase over the 2012-2013 budget.  An ACT 1 approved residential property will see on average an increase of $153 in taxes.  The District used two exceptions (PSERS and Special Education) in order to increase the millage rate.

The expected revenue for ‘13 –‘14 is approximately 97 million.  The revenues reflect additional income from refinancing bonds, taxes, and state subsidies. The budget includes expenditures of approximately 98 million. The increased operating budget includes additional expenses in labor, benefits and PSER’s.  The budget provides for an ending fund balance of 1.3 million.

Dr. William Keilbaugh addressed the proposed budget, “At Haverford, we have worked over the years to maintain a high level of educational excellence and extra-curricular offerings while still keeping our taxes reasonable.  I believe this year we have again provided for our students, teachers and community.”

The School Directors also announced they have reached a new two year labor agreement with the Haverford Teachers Educational Association.  The first year provides for a true 0% increase which is reflected in the 13-14 proposed final budget.  The second year of the new agreement will provide for a 3% increase.

Dr. Keilbaugh commented, “The new labor agreement is an illustration of the commitment of all parties in our School District to maintaining the highest level of education in these difficult economic times.”
