Haverford School Football Coach Recalls Loss To Chestnut Hill
The Haverford School's Fords loss to Chestnut Hill Academy 3-7.
coach Mike Murphy could glean at least a morsel of something from the Fords’ 7-3 Inter-Academic League loss to Chestnut Hill Academy.
The Fords’ front seven on defense played against one of the best backs in the area, Chestnut Hill’s Cedric Madden, who’s rushed for 350 yards in a game and almost 1,000 yards in five games. He had trouble breaking free from the Fords’ defense, which held Madden to 80 yards on 25 carries.
“Our defense played well; we hurt ourselves,” said Murphy, whose team dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the league. “We had interception returned for a touchdown, which was called back for a penalty. We had an interception that we fumbled right back. Chestnut Hill played well defensively, we didn’t execute very well offensively, and some of that had to do with the defense they played."

The Haverford School Fords suffered a defeat by Chestnut Hill Academy 3-7.
“This loss took our team by surprise. It was 3-0 us with 2:44 left when they scored. We answered pretty well. But they intercepted a pass at their 25. The kids understood the mistakes they made. They do get it. It wasn’t a situation where we didn’t play hard, but our front seven did the job.”
