Haverford School Bus Driver Wins Safety Competition

James O'Toole is competing in the state competition this weekend.

James O’Toole, a bus driver for Haverford School District, was honored by the Haverford Board of School Directors for taking first place in the Delaware County school bus drivers safety competition.

During the school board meeting on Thursday, June 21, O’Toole told the Haverford-Havertown Patch that he felt “good” about the achievement.

O’Toole, a Havertown resident, will now advance to the state competition.

He said at the time that he will take the written test on Friday night and take part in the driving competition on Saturday.

To compete in the nationals in Milwaukee, O’Toole said he would need to place first in his division, which is the transit division.

Flat-nose school buses are used in the transit division of the competition, while buses which feature a hood are used in the conventional division, O’Toole said.
