Haverford School Board Extends Superintendent’s Contract

Dr. William Keilbaugh described as a "phenomenal leader" to Haverford Township School District.

The Haverford Township Board of School Directors voted unanimously on Thursday evening, May 17, to extend Superintendent William Keilbaugh’s contract until 2015.

Keilbaugh’s contract extension is for the term of June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2015.

Haverford School Board President Denis Gray said he did not know exactly how much the contract extension will cost the district, but Keilbaugh told the Haverford-Havertown Patch that his annual salary is about $200,000.

Keilbaugh said his salary is frozen and will stand frozen.

In the spring of 2011, Central Administration for Haverford School District agreed to a salary freeze for the next school year in an effort to offset state budget cuts to education.

Keilbaugh has been superintendent of Haverford Township School District since 2006, but his career with the district began in 1978, as supervisor of special education, according to Keilbaugh’s biography on the district website.

“He’s been here 34 years … He’s a phenomenal leader to our district and we’re lucky to have him,” Gray said of Keilbaugh when speaking with Patch after the board meeting.

In other business, the board approved the retirement of Barbara Elefante, a full-time accounts payable clerk in the school district’s business office who is leaving the district after 34 years.

Elefante’s retirement is effective July 6.

“Barbara came to us in 1977 as an aide at our junior high school,” Keilbaugh said.

In 1987, Elefante moved to accounts payable, Keilbaugh said.

“What a fine person,” Keilbaugh added.

Gray said he wanted to thank Elefante for her service.

“I know she’s been a long-time valued employee in the business office,” Gray said.
