Haverford High School FBLA Club hosts 'Dancing With The Staff'

HHS FBLA students host "Dancing with the Staff" fundraiser

The Haverford High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club raised an estimated $1,200 dollars for various charities at the 2nd annual “Dancing with the Staff” event.

The event, based on the hit TV show "Dancing with the Stars," featured teachers from the elementary, middle and high school competing to earn the title of Haverford’s favorite dancer. The event helped raise money for the FBLA club’s Teen Challenge, a state project charity and Indigenous Pitch, a local non-profit organization in Ardmore started by the First Position Dance Arts performance studio.

Held this past Wednesday night, six groups of teachers practiced for months with dance instructors from First Position Dance Arts, who donated their time to help the teachers with their routines. There were hip hop, salsa, jive and tango numbers, all performed with great enthusiasm. The audience of about 200 voted via text right from their seats for their favorite dance number.

Teachers dancing in the competition were Mrs. Jacobs, Ms. Lapresi, Ms. Warren, Ms. Kyriss, Mr. and Mrs. Hulse, Ms. Lange and Ms. Kelly from Haverford High School; Ms. Bisaccia and Ms. Lanciano from Lynnewood Elementary; and Ms. Still and Mr. Henry from Haverford Middle School.

Also performing at the event were the Haverford Dance Team, members from The First Position Dance Arts and the student rap duo OCD.

Middle schooler Georgia Spies thought that Still and Henry’s hip hop routine was the best and thought they were “really funny.” Fellow middle schooler Mariah Lee added, “I thought they were really good, I voted for them.”

The winners of the competition were Still and Henry from the middle school with their hip hop number “G6Fly”. Both teachers won a small cash prize and flowers.

When asked if they thought their win would make them more popular with their students, both said, “We are already popular!”
