Haverford H.S. Club Gives Back To Troops Overseas

Haverford High School's Cooking for a Cause club is collecting donations to send to U.S. troops overseas.

This time of year has always been a reminder that many members of the U.S. military are overseas and away from their loved ones, but a club is collecting donations to make the troops feel a little closer to home.

And now senior Justin Juliano, the co-president of Cooking for a Cause for two years and along with his co-president Kelly Milligan, and more than 100 club members are gathering donations to give to Treats for Troops, an organization that sends gifts to soldiers overseas.

“I know a person who is heavily involved in it, and we were looking to do something that would benefit our soldiers,” Juliano stated, explaining to the Haverford-Havertown Patch why the club chose Treats for Troops to send collected donations.

The 17-year-old Juliano added that there is still time for area residents to send donations to the high school until Wednesday, Dec. 14, when the donation drive ends.

“Currently we have candy, Ramen noodles, health and beauty aides, granola bars, and batteries. Hand-made cards with positive messages to the troops are in high demand,” he advised as to what is still needed.

While not collecting donations for troops overseas, Juliano said that the club, which started in 2007, meets twice a month and makes dinners for local homeless shelters and serves them. He has been a member since his freshmen year.

For those with questions, Juliano said the club can be reached at: HHSCooking@gmail.com.
