Haverford College Names New Interim President

As interim president, Joanne V. Creighton will hold the title until the college finds its 14th president during the coming year.

After serving a 14-year presidency at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, Joanne V. Creighton, Ph.D., has been named new interim president, a press release from the college’s website stated.

“I have long admired Haverford,” Creighton said in the press release.

Creighton will be replacing Dr. Stephen Emerson, a stem cell biologist, who has stepped down after four years as president to return to teaching and research.

"I love this place, and I love doing what I'm doing, but it's time to move on," Emerson, a 1974 graduate of Haverford, . 

Creighton stepped down as president of Mount Holyoke College last year, but she left an impression on the college. While as president, the college saw faculty expansion, endowment growth and more international students attending the college, among other things, stated the press release.

As interim president, Creighton will hold the title until the college finds its 14th president during the coming year.

Due to her busy schedule and trying to familiarize herself with the campus and her new surroundings, Patch will be able to interview with Creighton in September once she is done settling in, Chris Mills, the college’s director of college communications, wrote to Patch in an email.
