Exploding Junior Star Matt Galambos Talks Football

The Haverford School junior has college recruiters noticing him.

He was because he was omnipresent.

Wherever a Malvern Prep player was with the ball, so was No. 47, junior Matt Galambos.

He made a game-high 12 tackles. He intercepted a pass for a touchdown—the first pick-six of his high school career—and when he wasn’t doing all of that, he was catching passes and causing problems all afternoon for perennial Inter-Academic League power Malvern Prep. As a sophomore, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker made first-team all-Inter Ac.

He’s going to be all-Inter Ac again this season, but it’s coming with a little more added attention. College recruiters are noticing. Penn State, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland and Temple have shown interest. It should rise once any of those scouts pop in the CD of Galambos’ game against Malvern Prep.

“My goal this year was to play like a senior, even though I’m a junior,” Galambos said. “I wanted to try and be the best player on the field every time I played. I think a lot of things have helped me since last year. I’m stronger, I gain about 12 pounds, and I came into this year feeling really comfortable. My only regret is we didn’t beat Malvern Prep. We just hate them, because we feel they don’t give us any respect at all.”

But they did give respect to Galambos.

“That kid is one heck of a player,” Malvern Prep coach Kevin Pellegrini said of Galambos. “He was all over the field for them. The problem is I have to see him again next year.”
