There is a suggested donation for the Philadelphia Meditation Center of $25 per day to cover light lunch and facilities.  In addition there will be an opportunity to make an offering to the teacher. No one will be turned away.
 
Seiun Roshi, is both a Maryknoll Sister (Sister Kathleen Reiley) and also a Zen Roshi.  She has been practicing zazen for over 40 years in Japan.  Her first Zen Master was Yamada Koun Roshi and now she practices with Yamada Ryoun Roshi.  She was given permission to teach in 1990.  Her biography is given below. Seiun Roshi will give instructions and will lead us in silent meditation (zazen).  There will be ample time to ask questions about meditation and Zen practice. Brief Biography of Seiun Roshi:
Seiun Roshi, is both a Maryknoll Sister (Sister Kathleen Reiley) and also a Zen Roshi.
She has been practicing zazen for over 40 years in Japan.  Her first Zen Master was Yamada Koun Roshi and now she practices with Yamada Ryoun Roshi .  She was given permission to teach in 1990.  Seiun Roshi was born in Pottsville, PA, the youngest of six children. Her brother is a Maryknoll priest: Father Bob Reiley. One of her biological sisters is a Sister of St Joseph:  Sister Cecile Reiley.   Seiun Roshi holds a BA in Far Eastern Studies from Sophia University in Tokyo as well as an MA from the Maryknoll School of Theology. She has completed a 15 month course in Clinical Pastoral Education at Penn State University Hospital in Hershey, PA.  Since 1989 Seiun Roshi has worked as a volunteer counselor in the children’s ward of the National Cancer Center Hospital in Tokyo.  In 1990 she helped found the Family House in Japan for families of children with cancer.  In 1968, early in her career as a Maryknoll Sister, Seiun Roshi was sent to Japan, and in 1969 she began to practice Zazen with Yamada Koun Roshi in Kamakura, Japan.  She continued to study with Yamada Koun Roshi for twenty years - until his passing in 1989.  Seiun Roshi currently studies with Yamada Ryoun Roshi (the son of Yamada Koun Roshi) and has also studied with Kubota Jiun Roshi.  Seiun Roshi was given permission to teach Zen in 1990 when she became a Sanbo-Kyodan Associate Zen Master.  Since that time she has been leading regular retreats in Tokyo and in Munich, Germany.
