Susan Gelber Cannon will speak about her new book: “Think, Care, Act: Teaching for a Peaceful Future” on Thursday January 26 from 7 - 9 p.m. in the CPGC (Center for Peace and Global Citizenship) Cafe, room 104 Stokes Hall at Haverford College, 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford, PA. Sponsored by the Bryn Mawr Peace Coalition, this Community Education Seminar will address ways in which teachers, parents and community members can empower children to think, care and act for peace and justice.

In a world in which GOP debate audiences applaud the record number of executions in Texas and the idea of an indigent person dying for want of health care and boo a gay serviceman; in a time when, in the words of Katrina vanden Heuvel of The Nation, “the forces of extremism, bigotry and greed [engulf] our political and economic landscape,” Sue Cannon teaches us how to help students think critically and creatively, care about classmates and global others, and act honorably and effectively for the greater good.

Currently a teacher of History and English, Model UN, peacemaking and debate at Episcopal Academy, Sue Cannon has 30 years experience in primary and secondary classrooms. She has trained teachers around the world and created art and peace education events in Asia, Europe and the US.
Topics covered in the presentation will include critical and creative thinking; media and political literacy; exploration of racism, gender issues, civil discourse, global citizenship, war, and peace; and school, community and global social action projects.
The event is free and open to the public. Parents, educators and community members are welcome to attend. There is ample free parking at the College. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event.
