Carrying A Special Name

Marcus Sydnor is filling his father's shoes nicely.

Marcus Sydnor certainly has the genetics. His father, Chris, was a star at Radnor High School in the early-1980s and went to play at Penn State.

The 5-foot-10, 150-pound Marcus has his father’s speed, as a two-way starter for as a slot back and wide receiver. His 43-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter of last Friday was his first career varsity touchdown.

He’s hoping to contribute a little more as the season progresses.

“Overall, varsity is way different than junior varsity, and you have to adjust by getting stronger and faster and recognizing plays better,” Sydnor said. “We had to put our foot down against Lower Merion, and start winning games. That was our first game on the new renovated field. It’s helped me out, it felt good running on the turf.”

Haverford will host undefeated Springfield this Friday night at 7 p.m. The Cougars are averaging 35 points a game in their three victories this season and giving up an average of 13 points a game.

“We need to cut down the mistakes and not fumble the ball, the little things, if we do that and everyone does their job, it could be a close game on Friday,” Sydnor said.
