A Tale Of Two Starts

Does The Haverford School have what it takes to beat West Catholic?

Chris DiBello knows what it was like to go winless through the month of September.

Not anymore.

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound starting senior center/middle linebacker went through it last year, when the Fords started their season off 0-6.

There’s been a complete reversal this season. Haverford School won its seventh-straight game, piggybacking off of five-straight victories last year, , last Saturday.

The Fords have begun this year 2-0 and will play the powerful West Catholic this Friday at Widener University at 7 p.m.

The Haverford School will look to go 3-0. What a difference a year makes.

“The difference to me is the senior class is really tight and our goal is to win the Inter-Academic League three-straight years,” DiBello said. “We have a chance to do it. You can feel that in the off-season and during practices what we set out to do. The goal is to go undefeated this year. We really think we can do that. But it won’t be easy.”

The Fords have already avenged two of last year’s losses this season, when they opened the season with a victory over Pennridge and now Lawrenceville School.

Did it take a year to realize this?

“It terms of the offensive line, I think it was a year of maturing, and we’re all pretty much back from last year,” DiBello said. “That’s obviously a big deal. We’re right where we want to be. Our goal is to 1-0 every week. We don’t want to look too far ahead.”
