Haverford High Students read original books to Chatham Park Students

HAVERTOWN— Creative Writing students in Ms. Elyse Barrett's class at Haverford High School recently completed a unit on writing children’s stories.  Students wrote their own original stories using effective plot development, dialogue, conflict/solution, and relatable characters and then illustrated their stories. Students spent almost 3 weeks perfecting their stories, and then participated in a 2-day book-making workshop with Ms. Talkin, a Haverford High School Art teacher, in order to turn their stories into bound books.

Today, the Creative Writing students read their original stories to their intended audience: children; and not just any children but those of Chatham Park Elementary School!

Jarett O’Boyle, a sophomore creative writing student, said, “I wanted to write a story with a good meaning that made the kids laugh.  It was great to see their reactions.”
