Haverford High School Welcomes One Book, One Philadelphia Author

Students to hear from Veterans’ Panel on February 27 at 9:20 am in preparation for an assembly by Kevin Powers, author of The Yellow Birds, on Tuesday, March 18 at 9am.

WHAT:   Haverford High School is the ONLY suburban high school hosting the upcoming One Book, One Philadelphia author Kevin Powers, a winner of the 2013 PEN/Hemingway Award for first fiction, Guardian First Book Award for 2012, and a National Book Award finalist for his novel, The Yellow Birds. Author Kevin Powers will visit Haverford High School to speak with students and community members giving them an opportunity to interact with a published author. Mr. Powers will be reading from his book.

In preparation for Mr. Powers visit, students will participate with a Panel of Veterans.  Seven veterans from different wars will talk with students about their experiences in war and the return home.
