Get to Know New Chatham Park Principal, Sara Christianson

Chatham Park Elementary School Principal, Sara Christianson, started working in July and is busily preparing for the upcoming school year.  We asked her a few questions to introduce her to the community.

What is your favorite color?

My favorite color is a black and white combo.  This has become very evident in my wardrobe! I wear it almost every day, usually with a pop of color.

What is your favorite food?

I would say it is sweet & salt combo of anything.  In Minnesota chocolate covered potato chips are huge!  I cannot get enough of them when I am home.  Chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered p-nuts, salted caramel, any of that will also do though too!

What is your favorite plant in your garden?

I received a gift of a Bleeding Heart bush from a parent a few years ago.  It was a gift of appreciation and healing and it is flourishing in my garden.  It is breath taking!

Who is your favorite child?

My daughter of course! Chloe is an amazing 2-year-old drama queen who keeps me laughing, praying and very humble.

What was your favorite subject in grade school?

My favorite subject in grade school was math.  I loved learning all of the tricks to multiply and solving problems.

Who was your favorite teacher?

My favorite teacher was Mr. Laubach. He taught me in high school.  He made me feel like I was important and that he appreciated who I was as an individual.  I appreciated his encouragement and compassion.

Did you play sports?

I did play sports.  I played basketball and track.  I also played intermural pickle ball.  (Look it up! It is a great time!!)

What was a hard experience that you were able to overcome?

Being 6 feet has been very difficult at times!  It wasn’t until I became an adult that I could say I completely accepted it. It is very hard being different from your peer group. Now, I LOVE my height!

What do you like about Haverford so far?

The people-especially the community.  I have been welcomed by everyone-everywhere I go.  People even come up to me at Wawa and introduce themselves and tell me what a great school Chatham Park is and how much I am going to love it here.

What do you like about being a principal?

I love everything! I love seeing teachers get excited for school to start.  I look forward to seeing the kids come back every year, and especially this year knowing that I get to meet over 580 brand new kids! I love getting to meet parents and having conversations about education, development, and programming.  I also love working with my colleagues on problem solving and looking for ways to improve our school and our students’ educational experience.
