Scott Campbell, illustrator of If Dogs Run Free and East Dragon, West Dragon, came to Coopertown Elementary school to share his newest book with the kindergarten and first grade students. His love of dogs led him to illustrate Bob Dylan’s book, If Dogs Run Free. Scott showed the students pictures of many types of dogs in his presentation. He explained that he wrote and illustrated his first book in first grade!!
The children were asked what they would like to see dogs doing. The children responded with parachuting, flying a plane, jumping on a trampoline and washing a car. Scott drew each of their requests adding to the drawings when prompted to add a co-pilot for the flying dog or a hose for the dog washing his car. Following Scott’s visit, the students will write class stories for each of these dogs.
