AED Device Donated in Memory of Haverford High Alumni, Sean Dougherty

HAVERTOWN- Haverford High School was honored to receive the donation of an automated electronic defibrillator (AED) from community member Monique Dougherty in honor of her late husband, Sean.  Sean was a 1991 graduate of Haverford High.  While at Haverford, he was an active member of the Haverford baseball team.  Sean was full of energy, had an amazing sense of humor and was very compassionate. Two years ago, he died of cardiac arrest with underlying heart disease.

In his memory, his wife Monique, along with family and friends, have raised money for heart disease awareness and testing.  Their fundraiser, Sean's Patrick's Day (https://www.facebook.com/SeanPatricksDay) , is held annually and this year raised over $14,000.  Sean's Patrick's Day will use the money in partnership with the charity, Aidan's Heart Foundation (http://www.aidansheart.org/), to fund the distribution of AED's throughout the region and heart testing for children.

“I thought that starting with a donation to the Haverford High School was perfect.  It is a place that Sean loved and where his much-loved nieces go.  Knowing that other young people, including our own family, could benefit from this device is a really great tribute to Sean,” said Monique Dougherty.

Four of the Dougherty's nieces and nephews attend Haverford schools and were on hand for the donation. The AED device will be available through the Athletic Department at Haverford High School.
