Free Flu Shots For Almost Everyone

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, many are eligible for free flu shots.

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, preventative care is now free for Americans who have health insurance. For many people, this means free flu shots.

For seniors on Medicare, flu shots are now free under Part B of Medicare. Furthermore, there is no co-pay no matter what supplemental plan you may have enrolled in. For those under age 65 and not yet on Medicare, you may find that most insurance companies provide for a free shot as part of the free preventative care required under the Affordable Care Act.

In Pennsylvania, since pharmacists can now administer the medication, you can drop into many local pharmacies to receive the shot with little or no wait.

Many pharmacies can now submit the bill directly to the insurance company for payment. As a result, you save the time and expense of mailing the bill to your insurance company for reimbursement.

You can get the flu shot at a local pharmacy or a major chain. Mike Cionci, who owns both the Parvins Pharmacy in Bryn Mawr and Katz Pharmacy in Havertown, says that shots are available in Bryn Mawr most days. In some CVS and Rite Aid Stores, a flue shot is available 24 hours a day. It is available at regular store hours in other stores.

If you do not have medical insurance there are other options. The shot costs only about $29. at Parvins Pharmacy and Rite Aid. It is $31. at CVS. The major chains provide discount incentives if you get the shot at their store. If you have ever been laid up in bed for a week with the flue, you realize that’s a tremendous bargain.

Stay well until the next post.
