Zoning Board Approves Rita's Application

A new water ice store is cleared for 500 West Chester Pike.

A new Rita's Water Ice is one step closer to coming to Havertown.

The Haverford zoning board approved a request for a special exception that would allow Ronald and Denise Calvy and Thomas and Ann Esposito, the lessees of 500 West Chester Pike, to bring in a fast food / take out restaurant, specifically a Rita's, to the location at its Thursday night meeting.

The four lessee did make some concessions to get their application approved, including withdrawing a request of off-site parking variances.

The zoning board voted unanimously in favor of the application, but included the following provisions:

  • An employee must be assigned to patrol the property for trash once the restaurant is in place
  • The owners must "take steps to monitor and report" and graffiti or mischief in the area of the store.
  • The owners must be vigilant and discourage parking in nearby permit-only parking zones.
  • The restaurant cannot stay open past 11 p.m. on any given night.
