Red Cross to Host Free Disaster Operations Course at Delaware County 911 Center

The course will take place on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Delaware County 911 Center.

MEDIA–The public is invited to attend a free course in Shelter Operations and Simulation that will be held at the Delaware County 911 Center at 360 North Middletown Rd. in Media (on Route 352 just north of Fair Acres).  

The course will take place on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is being presented in collaboration with the Southeastern PA Chapter of the American Red Cross. Pre-registration is required and the course is limited to 25 participants.

Shelter Operations prepares disaster volunteers to effectively and sensitively manage shelters as a team and to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.

Shelter Simulation provides participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation. Activities include demonstrating shelter opening, operating and closing procedures, identifying and using a variety of available resources, and addressing and managing common shelter problems effectively.

To sign up for the course, participants must use the Red Cross Saba Learning Management System located at https://classes.redcross.org. Instructions for how to go about the basic functions of that system are attached as a PDF to this story.
