Haverford Township Commissioners Sworn In

After winning this , five Haverford Township commissioners had to make it official and were sworn in during a special Reorganization Meeting on Tuesday night. 

, , and took their oaths to continue being Haverford Township’s commissioners, with being the only new commissioner taking the oath for the first time, having replaced Robert Trumbull’s position as 3rd ward commissioner after he retired after serving 12 years.

After the commissioners took their oaths, all of the commissioners discussed who would hold the titles of president and vice president of the board of commissioners.

While the commissioners unanimously voted for Wechsler as president again, it was D’Emilio who faced a challenged by 6th Ward Commissioner Larry Holmes who nominated 4th Ward Commissioner Dan Siegel for vice president.

But the two were the only ones who voted in favor of Siegel while the rest of the board voted for D’Emilio as vice president again.

“I would have been surprised (if I won), but I think I earned it,” Siegel, a Democrat, told the Haverford-Havertown Patch after the meeting was adjourned, adding that he thought there would be more bi-partisan support. Holmes would not comment about his nominating Siegel.

D’Emilio, a Republican, said that Siegel would have made a good choice if he won the nomination, but added that he was thankful that the majority of the commissioners had faith in him to serve another term as vice president.

Wechsler said that he was honored to be voted again as president, but said that it is only a title to him and that all of the commissioners are equal. He did add that his role on the board of commissioners is only second compared to being the 9th ward commissioner.  

Hall said of her first role of being a commissioner of voting for the reappointments and appointments of various township commissions and boards positions was “interesting” and that she was looking forward to her new role in the township.

Laughing, Holmes said that Hall will add class to the board of commissioners as he patted her on the back.
