Haverford School Board VP Resigns

School board members will choose a candidate to fill Maxine Murdoch's seat.

The Haverford Board of School Directors on Thursday night accepted a resignation letter from school board vice president Maxine Murdoch, who is moving to Kentucky.

School Board President Denis Gray said Murdoch notified him on Thursday of her resignation, which is effective July 10, 2012.  Murdoch was absent from Thursday’s school board meeting.

She and her husband Kelsey, who have four grown children, are moving to Kentucky, Gray said.

“Maxine is from Kentucky, so she’s moving back to her family,” Gray said.

Superintendent William Keilbaugh read Murdoch’s resignation letter aloud to the board.

In the resignation letter, Murdoch said her time on the board was an unforgettable experience, both professionally and personally; she was proud to serve with each board member; and she was grateful to and humbled by the people of Haverford Township.

She ended the letter by saying she would never forget her time here.

“We will never forget her time here, either,” said school board member Patricia Giambuzzi.

Board member Russell Bilotta said Murdoch’s insight is “phenomenal.”

“The nine of us were not just board members, we became friends … It’s a shame to see her go,” Bilotta said.

Board member Philip Hopkins said Murdoch is “wonderfully well-read, completely committed to public education.”

Gray said Murdoch helped “countless” students get into college.

“Maxine was the free college consultant.  She would evaluate essays …” Gray said.

Because it is not an election year, the school board will review resumes and then appoint a candidate to fill Murdoch’s seat, Keilbaugh told the Haverford-Havertown Patch.

Gray said anyone who is interested in Murdoch’s seat should email
a cover letter and resume to the school district’s business manager and address it to Gray’s attention.

The email address for school district’s business manager, Richard Henderson, is rhenderson@havsd.net.

Gray asked that interested candidates submit their resumes before the next board meeting, which is scheduled for July 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the board conference room at the Oakmont Administration Building.
