Haverford School Board Appoints New Manoa School Principal

Springfield resident Kyle Hammond will replace Daniel Horan.

Kyle Hammond, assistant principal of , was appointed the new principal of by the Haverford Board of School Directors on Thursday night.

Hammond will replace Daniel Horan, in Havertown to become principal on July 1.

Hammond will be paid a pro-rated salary of $122,000 and his appointment
will become effective approximately on July 15, 2012, according to information about the appointment which was included in the superintendent’s written report to the school board.

A resident of Springfield, Hammond began his career in education as a Philadelphia school teacher, Hammond told the Haverford-Havertown Patch.

After teaching in Philadelphia from February 1998 to June 1998, Hammond taught in West Chester Area School District for 10 years and then served as an interim elementary school assistant principal in West Chester, Hammond said.

Since August 2008, Hammond has been the assistant principal of Great Valley Middle School in Malvern.

Hammond said he received his undergraduate degree in elementary education from West Chester University, attended Gratz College for graduate school, and earned his principal certificate from Gwynedd-Mercy College.

When Patch asked Hammond to comment on being appointed the new principal of Manoa Elementary School, he said he would instead like to quote former professional boxer Muhammad Ali who once said:

“’The price that you pay for your room and board here on earth is your service to others.’”
