SEPTA Train Cars Decouple, Collide In Haverford

The accident occurred on the Norristown High Speed Line between Penfield and Beechwood-Brookline stations, sending two people to the hospital.

Two passenger cars on SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line decoupled then collided Friday night, halting service and causing some injuries among the riders.

The accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. between Penfield and Beechwood-Brookline stations, according to Brookline Fire Chief John Viola, who is also the deputy chief of the Havertown Township Police Department. He also told the Haverford-Havertown Patch that an operator and a female passenger went to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

One rider, Bryce Simmons, of Philadelphia, said he felt the train jerk suddenly during the collision. He praised Haverford Township's police, fire and rescue crews as well as SEPTA staff.

Passengers remained on the train for more than an hour after the accident before they were permitted to exit at Wynnewood Road Station. SEPTA sent another train to pick them up.

NHSL: Single-track service has resumed between Township Line Road and Wynnewood on the inbound tracks. Expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

And again at 9:10 p.m.:

NHSL: Service between Township Line Road and Wynnewood has resumed operations on both tracks.
