Police: Havertown Teen Killed By Train

An inbound SEPTA train struck and killed an 18-year-old Havertown resident, police say.

Early Sunday morning an 18-year-old Havertown resident was killed after a SEPTA train struck him, according to the .

In a Sunday morning press release to the media, Community Policing and Motorcycle Unit Supervisor Sgt. Michael Glenn stated that at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police were at the Overbrook station of the SEPTA Route 100 high speed line after a train struck a white 18-year-old male.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that a W/M/18 of Havertown was struck by an inbound train along the tracks between the Penfield Station and the Overbrook station. The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounce deceased at the scene," Glenn wrote in the press release.

There were no other reported injuries to the train conductor or the passengers and the teenager's name has not been released until his family has been notified, Glenn added.

In a phone interview with the Haverford-Havertown Patch, Jerri Williams, SEPTA's director of Media Relations, said she did not have all the information regarding the accident.

"We do have a systems investigator and he will be preparing a report," she said about the accident, adding that the report would not be completed until a few days and it will be given to the Haverford Township Police Department.

She did say that the time of death was recorded at 3:30 a.m.

Glenn told Patch in a phone interview that the investigation is still ongoing and additional information will be released as it comes in.
