Police & Fire Police Recover Vehicle Used in Hykel's Drive-By in North Philly

Philadelphia police found the vehicle in a parking lot last week.

have recovered the car they believe was used in the that wounded a man at in Ardmore, Police Chief Carmine Pettine told Patch on Wednesday.

Pettine said that last week, Philadelphia police found the vehicle—initially reported to be a silver Toyota SUV, but whose specific make and model the department wouldn't comment on—abandoned in a North Philadelphia parking lot.

Though its license plate was removed, officers ran the vehicle's VIN number and, after seeing that it was implicated in an investigation, contacted Haverford Police, who towed it into town.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Pettine declined to comment on how his department originally ascertained the VIN number of the getaway vehicle.

However, Hykel's owner Joe Toogood told that he overheard a witness tell police she "knew who the shooter was." Pettine did acknowledge that her report was "part of the investigation."

"That's all I'm willing to give right now regarding the case," the chief added.

On Nov. 15 shortly after 7 p.m., one or two black males driving a silver SUV pulled up alongside the Ardmore bar and opened fire on a woman and a 32-year-old Philadelphia man who had been arguing outside. The gunmen got off four shots, one of which lodged itself in the forehead of the man, who was later treated for what was described as a flesh wound and released from .
