Police Blotter: Man Flees After Hit-and-Run

Police deal with a man with mental issues and threatening his neighbor.

Hit-and-run driver ‘panicked,’ fled scene

A 27-year-old Havertown man was charged with hit-and-run charges after reportedly hitting a car while running a red light at County Line and Landover roads in the Bryn Mawr section of the township.

The accident took place Wednesday, May 18, just before 1 p.m.

Jeffrey Shepley told police that he did not stop for the red light and hit a car with two people inside. According to a police report, Shepley, driving a large work truck, said he panicked and drove from the scene.

The driver of the car that was hit followed the truck driven by Shepley for several blocks until it was stopped by traffic. Shepley was arraigned at Newtown Square District Court.

INCIDENTS:

Disorderly Conduct at Darby and Golf Roads on 5/24 at 8:27 a.m. — While conducting a check of the skate park, officers observed a school aged male loitering in the park. The officers made the student aware that he was truant and that he needed to go to school. The student stated, "No, I'm going to have my cigarette." The 14-year-old male was cited for disorderly conduct and returned to the middle school. The student’s mother reported to the school and was made aware of the incident. 

Burglary at Hollow Run Apartments (1900 block of West Chester Pike) on 5/25 at 3:16 p.m. — Apartment was entered through an unlocked screen door. Laptop, watch, jewelry and cash were stolen.

Theft at the 600 block of Ardmore Avenue on 5/25 at 12:50 p.m. — A lawn mower was stolen from the front of the victim's residence. 

Theft at the 1000 block of Darby Road on 5/25 at 2:45 p.m. — Victim reported that his propane tank was stolen from his grill.

Theft at the Haverford Middle School (1800 block of Darby Road) on 5/25 at 9:14 p.m. — A cell phone was stolen from an unattended backpack.

Public Drunkenness at the 1600 block of Burmont Road on 5/25 at 9:23 p.m. — Officers responded to a 911 hang up. Upon arrival officers observed a white male highly intoxicated. Officers offered for the male to call for a sober ride home and he refused. Joseph Clark, 39, 1600 block of Burmont Road, could barely walk and was rolling in the yard and yelling. Clark was cited for public drunkenness and transported to the police station to await sobriety.

Identity Theft at the 300 block of Mill Road on 5/26 at 11:22 a.m. — Victim reported that he was contacted by the IRS stating that someone used his identity to file a tax return.

Vandalism at the Manoa Shopping Center on 5/26 at 11:11 a.m. — Graffiti was observed in the walkway to the shopping center. 

Narcotics at the unit block of Chelten Road on 5/26 at 7 a.m. — While conducting a search warrant detectives observed drug paraphernalia in a bedroom. The owner of the paraphernalia was not at the scene and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Detectives also found heroin and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle parked at the residence. Lindsey Anderson was arrested and charged.

Drug Equipment Violations at the 800 block of Valley Road on 5/26 at 10:21 p.m. — While conducting a vehicle stop officers observed a glass smoking bowl on the floor of the passenger seat. A 16-year-old male was arrested and charged.

Liquor Law Violations at the 700 block of Grove Place on 5/27 at 9:02 p.m. — Officers were dispatched for a large group of juveniles carrying alcoholic beverages into a wooded area. Officers made contact with the juveniles and they admitted to consuming alcohol in the woods. Two 16-year-old girls, a 15-year-old male, 16-year-old male and 17-year-old male were cited for underage drinking. The 17-year-old male was cited for disorderly conduct. 

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/28 at 12:47 p.m. — Two unlocked vehicles were entered — Two GPS, projector, wallet containing credit cards and cash were stolen.

Theft at the 1100 block of Allston Road on 5/28 at 4:39 p.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS, sneakers and looses change was stolen.

Theft at the 1500 block of Brierwood Road on 5/28 at 11:03 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS was stolen.

Theft at the 200 block of W. Westwood Park Drive on 5/28 at 9:54 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — loose change was stolen.

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/28 at 9:57 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — iPhone charger was stolen.

Theft at the 600 block of Country Club Lane on 5/28 at 3:22 p.m. — Two unlocked vehicles were entered — loose change was stolen.

Theft at the 1300 block of Sunny Hill Lane on 5/28 at 5:53 a.m. — Three unsecured vehicles were entered and rifled through. Nothing appeared to have been missing.

Drug Equipment Violations at Westgate Park (300 block of Oxford Hill Lane) on 5/28 at 9:08 p.m. —  While conducting a footbeat in the park officers heard voices coming from the dugout and could smell the odor of burnt marijuana. A 14-year-old male was in possession of marijuana and was arrested and charged.

Bicycle Theft at the 1100 block of Garfield Avenue on 5/29 at 8:32 p.m.

Bicycle Theft at the 1700 block of Mount Pleasant Road on 5/29 at 11:34 a.m.

Theft at the 400 block of Avondale Road on 5/29 at 10:56 a.m. — Victim reported that an unknown person entered her rear yard and stole her old propane-cooking grill.

Vandalism at the 2100 block of E. Darby Road on 5/29 at 11:19 a.m. — Vehicle was scratched.

Theft at the 1500 block of Brierwood Road on 5/30 at 11:14 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — wallet containing cash, credit cards and a driver's license was stolen.

Theft at Paisano's Pizzeria (100 block of W. Eagle Road) on 5/30 at 9:35 p.m. — Unknown person stole a metal cash drawer containing $1,300.

Criminal Mischief at the 2700 block of Saint Mary's Road on 5/30 at 3:03 p.m. — Vehicle window was cracked.

Fraud at the 400 block of Cherry Lane on 5/31 at 3:48 p.m. — Victim reported that an unauthorized person opened a credit card account and made $2,000 worth of purchases.

Disorderly Conduct at the unit block of E. Park Road on 5/31 at 10 p.m. — Officers were dispatched for a subject having mental health issues and threatening his neighbor. Upon arrival officers observed Nathaniel Crocket threaten his neighbor and police officers. Crocket was arrested and then transferred to the hospital for treatment.
