Man Stole Golf Cart, Crashed it at U.S. Open, Police Say

No one was injured in the incident, but the golf cart was damaged.

This gives a new meaning to drinking and driving.

Frederick Haab, 53, of Gladwyne, was cited for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after police said he stole a golf cart at the U.S. Open, drove it through a crowded area and crashed it. 

No one was injured, but the cart was damaged, said Sgt. Shant Bedrossian of the Haverford Township Police Department.

The incident took place on June 14 around 4:30 p.m. in Merion Golf Club’s East Course.

Haab’s two passengers, Kurt Haab, 49, of Bryn Mawr, and Brian Crochiere, 48, of Bryn Mawr, were cited for disorderly conduct.

Over all, the U.S. Open went “very well” and only caused “minor incidents,” Bedrossian told Haverford Patch.
