Fallen Wire at Haverford Station Causes Mini Roof Fire

A fallen wire at Haverford Station caused a mini roof fire Saturday afternoon.

The Lower Merion Fire Department responded to Haverford Station once more Saturday, several hours after they responded to a mini roof fire at the station earlier.

Fire officials were called by SEPTA to cut a hole around a metal support wire strip to prevent any future wires from causing another fire at the station late Saturday afternoon.

Matt Maguire, Lower Merion fire marshal, said a power surge went through the metal support wire that was connected to the roof platform and caused the mini roof fire earlier today.

According to Christina Leeds, an Amtrak representative, a wire of unknown origin created a small fire on the roof of the train station. The roof suffered minor damages, said Leeds.

No power outages and no track damages were reported, according to Amtrak, who owns the tracks and the wires at the station.

Andrew Bush, a SEPTA representative, also stated the damage was minimal and no injuries were reported.

According to Bush, train service was not interrupted.

A section of the station where the incident occurred was roped off for safety.
